Every franchise has underrated players and coaches that help them win games on a weekly basis.
According to Bleacher Report, they have named one secret weapon for every team. The Carolina Panthers selection was offensive coordinator Joe Brady.
“He is a proven offensive mind who has already turned one relatively average passer into a champion and bona fide star. . . While Burrow showed last season that he wasn’t a one-year wonder, Brady did the same. He coaxed a solid campaign out of journeyman quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who threw for 3,733 yards and posted a 92.1 passer rating.”
The dynamics between the offensive coordinator and the starting quarterback is a crucial one. If they have a good relationship, it helps the team function at its best. Unfortunately, the Panthers only have fifty percent of that equation working at this time. Even though there were some struggles with Teddy Bridgewater last season, Brady was still held in high regard as a head coaching candidate, getting at least five talks with teams around the NFL.
There is a reason Brady was sought after around NFL circles. In his first season in the NFL, Brady showed what he could really do, but he just didn’t have the signal caller to execute the plays. Brady’s offense has lots of creativity and fits well with today’s players. Even though some say he called too many first down rushing plays, the same could be said about the majority of play callers around the league, with the exception of Buffalo’s Brian Daboll and Kansas City’s Eric Bieniemy.
For Brady to take the Panthers to the next level, they will have to improve their red zone accuracy. That might be a tough ask because of quarterback Sam Darnold’s well documented trouble in the red area. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Darnold has the NFL’s lowest passer rating in the red zone over the last three years.
If anyone is going to help Darnold become the quarterback he was supposed to be as a No. 3 overall pick, it’ll be Brady. Even if things don’t work out with Darnold, there is a great possibility that Brady might get a look for head coaching opportunities in 2022.
