The Charlotte Hornets played their second consecutive summer league game Monday night, losing to the Sacramento Kings 80-70 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. The Kings Jahmi’us Ramsey led everyone in scoring with 22 points.
The Kings came out ready to go in the first half. However, every time they got a significant lead, the Hornets fought their way back into the contest. The same thing happened to start the second half.
The Kings built a double figure lead, only to see the Hornets cut the lead to a single point, with seven minutes to go in the final frame. That was as tight as the Hornets were able to make the game. The Kings outscored the Hornets by nine points, 22-13, to complete the victory.
Chimezie Metu totaled 16 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals to lead the Kings. Louis King and Davion Mitchell chipped in 10 points each.
The Hornets had five players score in double digits. DJ Carton and Arnoldas Kulboka had 13 points apiece to lead Charlotte in scoring. Even though James Bouknight struggled from the field, he managed to have 11 points. LiAngelo Ball and Nick Richards also contributed 10 points each.
Ball had an all-around game. Not only did he score 10 points, he had five rebounds and two steals in only 20 minutes of playing time. Even if he doesn’t make the Hornets final roster, it won’t be because of lack of fanfare and support, which was demonstrated by the fans in the arena.
The Charlottes Hornets next summer league game will be on Thursday, August 12 at 3 p.m. ET against the San Antonio Spurs. It will be aired on ESPNews and ESPNU.
