Almost every NFL team has participated in joint practices this year and has benefited from it. A joint practice between the Carolina Panthers and the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday, was a little more intense than anticipated.
According to a source, there was a small fight between Ravens wide receiver Binjimon Victor and Panthers defensive back Jaycee Horn. The report stated that Victor received a hard hit on a crossing route and reacted by throwing the ball at Horn.
At that point, things escalated. Dozens of players got in on the action and punches were thrown. It took a little while for cooler heads to prevail.
It is not known at this time if Ravens head coach John Harbaugh or Panthers head coach Matt Rhule will discipline their respective teams. Hopefully there will not be any more fights, or teams might stop doing joint practices altogether.
In other Panthers news, Robby Anderson’s second year is off to a slow start. After hearing his name in trade talks leading up to the draft, the sixth-year veteran wide receiver has had to miss several practices this summer. Now to add insult to injury, he is dealing with a hamstring issue, according to coach Rhule. The injury occurred sometime last week in practices.
The good news is the injury does not appear to be serious and Rhule expects it to be a “short-term-one.” Anderson was observed on the sideline during the joint practice on an exercise bike, trying to loosen up his hamstring.
Also, linebacker Denzel Perryman may be close to making his return to training camp. He was spotted carrying pads at Wofford College. Perryman is recovering from a lower-body injury. Although at the beginning of the week, Rhule was unsure of Perryman’s availability, seeing him at the practice was encouraging for one of Carolina’s projected starting linebackers.
