The Extra Point: Clemson, your offense…. woof

It’s been a rough go for ACC football.

The one team the conference could rely on reps a 2-2 record scoring 45 points combined against FBS opponents.

It’s been shocking to see Clemson fall this far. To have played in 4 National Championships since 2015, lose as many games in 4 tries as you did in 15 contests really each of the 6 seasons prior.

ESPN’s Andrea Adelson joined The Afternoon Rush and said you could see a few minor cracks in the foundation that lead to the collapse….

The Tigers have sported elite talent at every position group for a while.

If you look at QB, Clemson trotted out 2 of the best guys at the position in Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence.

The worst QB they had play any significant time was Kelly Bryant who had his flaws, but overall was still a pretty effective quarterback. With the help of a great team around him, he still lead the Tigers to big wins over Auburn and Texas A&M during his time there.

The WR’s have featured guys like Mike Williams, Tee Higgins, and Hunter Renfrow. The RB’s included Wayne Gallman and Travis Etienne.

Now? It’s hard to say from their recent play they’d have any offensive player perform with the best of them on Sundays like the previous offensive talents before them.

Of course, that’s not to say it’s not all there somewhere. The guys returning were part of the reason this fall is so unexpected.

DJ Uiagalelei threw for 342 yards against Boston College, and followed that up with a 430 yard performance against one of the best defenses in the country like Notre Dame.

In 2018, Justyn Ross caught for 300 yards and 3 TD’s combined in the College Football Playoff on their way to a championship.

The defense is still playing lights out and giving them a chance, but the offense has come down to the rest of the ACC, and even worse.
