The Charlotte 49ers will suit up against FIU this evening, which you can catch right here on 730 the Game. I’m a company man.
The 49ers missed a chance last week against Illinois to make history a couple times by continuing the best start in school history, and beating two Power 5 schools in a season. It wasn’t even done once before they beat Duke.
Coach Will Healy talked about the confidence that victory gave the 49ers going forward, and you could see that last Saturday.
The difference in the game unfortunately, was the missed field goal to tie it at 17 a piece, turning into a long touchdown run for Illinois immediately after.
Will Healy discussed the loss further on The Afternoon Rush…..
This week against FIU, the 49ers will face Butch Davis who’s had wild success over his career, but also lots of drama. The latter showed itself this week.
On Tuesday, there were reports that Butch Davis might be retiring or at least moving on from the Panthers program.
FIU had listed a job posting on their website calling for head coach applications.
Shortly after, Brett McMurphy reported FIU’s university website lists job postings for each head coach & assistant in every sport even when there are no openings, just to create a pool to choose from when the time may come.
Who knows if the extra outside noise can help the Niners out.
If the past is any indication, they may need it. The 49ers have never beaten FIU in the program’s young existence. As I mentioned at the top, the year has already seen so much history and we’re barely in to October.
