Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler came in as the Heisman favorite. Then, he had to transfer to another university because he lost his job.
South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer is giving Rattler a 2nd chance after failing expectations this past season at OU.
There were so many things in place for him to succeed. The talent he possessed, the talent around him, and a head coach who had groomed 2 other Heisman winners before him, and 3 who are starting NFL QB’s right now.
Then the games actually happened.
Right out of the gate against Tulane, the Sooners barely hung on at home against the Green Wave and Rattler threw a couple interceptions.
In fact, in every start he had against teams not named Western Carolina, he tallied 5 touchdown passes and 4 INT’s. That’s when Caleb Williams came in against Texas and looked the part Spencer Rattler was supposed to play.

It’s not like we’ve never seen good play with only the potential being attractive. Last season the number 1 QB out of high school accumulated 34 total touchdowns and only 7 interceptions.
Shane Beamer thinks that’s enough for an opportunity in Columbia.
Here’s ESPN’s Freddie Coleman on the transfer…. (audio)
It was a good first year for Beamer with the Gamecocks achieving bowl eligibility. It’s clear they’re ready for something more in his 2nd season.
