Chiefs Trade Hill to Dolphins in Blockbuster Deal

Tyreek Hill’s talents are headed to South Beach. The Kansas City Chiefs are trading Hill to the Miami Dolphins in a massive deal.

In exchange for Hill, Kansas City will receive a 2022 first-round pick, 2022 second-round pick, 2022 fourth-round pick, 2023 fourth-round pick, and 2023 sixth-round pick, per sources.

The six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, will become the highest paid wide receiver in NFL history. It is a four-year contract worth $120 million, $30 million per year, with $72.2 million guaranteed. This contract will top the current highest-paid receiver, Davante Adams, who signed a five-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders, which averages $28.5 million per season.

The Chiefs had been making some contingency plans preparing for Hill’s exit, since recently signing former Steelers pass catcher JuJu Smith-Schuster. They continued to scout free-agent and draft options and on Wednesday, the hosted former Packer, Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Reports on Kansas City shopping Hill began early Wednesday, when contract negotiations stalled between both sides. The Chiefs came with an offer that would have made Hill one of the highest-paid players at his position, but he chose to explore other possibilities. Both the Jets and the Dolphins were in serious trade talks that would have made him the highest-paid wideout in the league. Despite being “torn,” the four-time All-Pro chose the Dolphins.

A fifth-round pick in the 2016 draft, Hill made the Pro Bowl in each of his six seasons as stated earlier. He was a first-team All-Pro three times, twice as a receiver and once as a returner and a Super Bowl LIV champion.

Hill leaves Kansas City as one of the best receivers in franchise history. He is forth on the team’s all-time list with 479 receptions, fifth with 6,630 yards and fourth with 56 receiving touchdowns. Hill caught 111 passes for 1,239 yards, with nine touchdowns in 2021.

Losing Hill, however, removes one of the NFL’s most explosive pass catchers from a lineup once heralded as the most dangerous in the league, sapping star quarterback Patrick Mahomes of one of his top targets.

Now he will pair with Jaylen Wadle, to form a strong receiver tandem, to aid quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in the AFC East. At 28 years old, he has plenty left in the tank.
