In a closely contested game, Wake Forest emerged victorious with a score of 92-85 over UNC. Tyree Appleby and Damari Monsanto had strong performances, Appleby recorded a double-double performance with 35 points and 11 assists, improving the Deacs overall record to 16-9. With this win, the Deacs now are 11-2 at home with a conference record of 8-6.
Despite the loss, UNC had strong performances from Pete Nance, Armando Bacot, Caleb Love and RJ Davis, with Bacot and Nance recording double-doubles, Bacot recorded 17 points and 11 boards while Nance recorded 11 points and 10 boards. Love struggled offensively, shooting 9-25 from the field.
Wake Forest head coach Steve Forbes discussed what the Deacs did to achieve their victory over UNC.
“It was a great win. We played really well the first half. Offensively we were clicking. I thought we executed all the stuff we put in with the pick and roll. I feel it gave them a lot of problems.”
“Obviously Ty Appleby had an incredible night, he’s an incredible competitor.”
“I didn’t think our shot selection was great going down the stretch but we were open, you make those you blow the doors open.”

“We played nothing like we practiced the last couple days. We played nothing like I thought we were going to play and respond today in the first half.”
Love spoke during a post-game interview on the attitude the Tar Heels possessed despite the loss.
“We can’t keep feeling sorry for ourselves. We have to draw the line. There’s literally no choice for us but to fight. Every time we step on the floor we have to fight.”
UNC will take on Clemson at the Dean Smith Center on Saturday Feb.7 at 2:00 P.M. EST. Meanwhile, Wake Forest will next face Georgia Tech on Saturday Feb.7 at 5:00 P.M. EST at the Joel Coliseum.
