#1 Wake Forest will play their 2nd game in the College World Series against #5 LSU in Omaha tonight at 7 pm EST. The Deacs after they defeated the Tigers in game 8 on Monday 3-2.
The Deacons look to continue their World Series run as the #1 overall seed in the tournament, and winning tonight’s game will send them to the CWS Finals beginning on Saturday.
Wake Forest’s catcher Bennett Lee went two for three with one RBI, and pitcher Josh Hartle had nine strikeouts over six innings on Monday.
Embed from Getty ImagesLSU’s third-baseman Tommy White went two for four with one RBI, but pitcher Ty Floyd had 10 strikeouts over five innings.
In a controversial play in the top of the eighth, LSU third base Coach Jay Johnson sent first baseman Tre Morgan to tie up the game, but he was thrown out at home.
LSU challenged the call, but it was upheld.
It was Lee who singled to left field sending Danny Corona home from second in the bottom of the 8th that gave the Deacons the lead.
Both teams had five hits, but Camden Minacci’s two strikeouts in the ninth combined with a ground out to first secured the victory.
LSU got here by defeating Tennessee in an elimination game last night 5 – 0.
If the Tigers win tonight, it will force a rubber match with the Deacons again tomorrow at 7 pm EST in an elimination game.
