The NFL is starting their 2024 season with fireworks. At the end of the campaign, the 59th Super Bowl will be played. No franchise has ever won three Super Bowls in a row.
The overwhelming headline and story of the 2024 NFL season will be the Kansas City Chiefs’ pursuit of history. The Chiefs won each of the past two Super Bowls, against Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers, respectively, and are looking to be the first team ever to win three consecutive Lombardi Trophies.
The season opener on Thursday, September 5, features two of the game’s top signal callers, one representing team dominance and the other being the pinnacle of individual success. Those quarterbacks are Patrick Mahomes, the Super Bowl MVP the past two years, and reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson. Mahomes has controlled the matchup against Jackson, going 4-1 against him, including the playoffs.
The last time Baltimore played in Kansas City was back in 2019, when the Chiefs won narrowly 33-28. The Ravens have not won at Arrowhead Stadium since 2012.
Before making the leap to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans next February, there is a 17-game, 18-week regular season to be played. As stated previously, it starts in Kansas City on Thursday night, September 5 at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs’ opponent for the annual opener for the reigning Super Bowl champions will be Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.

The NFL had several options at its disposal for the opening game of the season. The Chiefs had three very enticing home opponents: the Ravens, Houston Texans and Cincinnati Bengals. So, for the first game of the 2024 season, they decided on a rematch of last season’s AFC Title game, which Kansas City won 17-10.
This will be the third time in five years that the Chiefs will be playing in the NFL season opener.
The Chiefs’ opener was not the first 2024 regular season game announced. Early last month, the NFL said the Green Bay Packers and the Eagles will face off on Friday, September 6 in São Paulo, Brazil. It is the first time the NFL will play a regular season game in South America and the first game on a Friday of the NFL’s opening week since 1970.
The regular season is not far away. There is an opening night matchup on the calendar to look forward to, so get your popcorn ready.
