NC State looks to improve the run game in 2024

NC State had zero players in the top 15 in rushing yards among ACC players last year and head coach Dave Doeren looks to change that heading into the 2024 season. Last December State picked up Duke Transfer Jordan Waters who ranked 10th among all ACC players in rushing yards. “Jordan is going to help us in the run game, for sure. The whole offense in general, it always starts with what is the quarterback going to do, right? We feel great about what Grayson can do. Then the offensive line, the blocking schemes that those guys are good at, the depth that you have there. How the tight end plays into that game.” Doeren said when asked about how Waters would help the run game.

Waters has played wide receiver and safety in the past. When asked about his love for playing running back he said “It’s easy for me to get the ball. All you got to do is turn around, It’s fun! I came in as a safety. That wasn’t for me. I went to running back. All I got to do is go out there and run and not get hit.”

Doeren has assembled one of the top transfer classes in the ACC. “You look at Jordan and Grayson, two guys that chose to move on from their schools. They were guys that are in-state players to us, guys I knew would have personal value in staying home and doing something with the team that has the largest alumni base in the state.” Doeren said about his use of the transfer portal.

NC State will try to get the running game back on track this season after this major roster addition.
