Clark to Have No. 22 Jersey Retired by Hawkeys

Come one, come all. One of the G.O.A.T.’s of the women’s college game is set to have her jersey retired. An Iowa native and a Hawkeyes legend is going up in the rafters at Carver-Hawkeye Arena who was like no other in her time with the program.

After putting on marquee shows night after night and putting on display what was the greatest statistical collegiate basketball career of all time, Caitlin Clark will realize another one of her dreams and see her No. 22 jersey retired and hanging in the rafters.

Iowa women’s basketball has announced that the jersey retirement ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, February 2, 2025, and the woman of the hour, Clark will be in attendance.

“I’m forever proud to be a Hawkeye, and Iowa holds a special place in my heart that is bigger than just basketball,” Clark said in a statement. “It means the world to me to receive this honor and to celebrate it with my family, friends and alumni. It will be a great feeling to look up in the rafters and see my jersey alongside those that I’ve admired for so long.”

The Hawkeyes host the USC Trojans and JuJu Watkins at 12:30 p.m. CT in a contest that was built as get your popcorn ready must-see TV airing on FOX and has now become even bigger and an even hotter ticket to get your hands on.

Clark, the NCAA Division I all-time scoring leader with 3,951 points, has a list a mile long of accomplishments and awards from her time at Iowa.

She was a three-time Unanimous First-Team All-American, three-time Big Ten Player of the Year, a two-time John Wooden Award winner, a two-time Naismith College Player of the Year, and many more to name just a few.

The first pick in April’s 2024 WNBA Draft, Clark only added to her legendary status. She took the Indiana Fever back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016, while winning the WNBA Rookie of the Year and being named an All-WNBA First-Team Selection.

“Caitlin Clark has not only redefined excellence on the court but has also inspired countless young athletes to pursue their dreams with passion and determination,” Iowa athletic director Beth Goetz said. “Her remarkable achievements have left an indelible mark on the University of Iowa and the world of women’s basketball.
“Retiring her number is a testament to her extraordinary contributions and a celebration of her legacy that will continue to inspire future generations. Hawkeye fans are eager to say thank you for so many incredible moments.”

Clark has also changed the game off the court. She has elevated ratings unlike any female athlete ever before, sent ticket prices soaring through the roof, and transformed the way that the WNBA operates.

There was no like her before. There will be no one like her after. Caitlin Clark is one of a kind and her No. 22 will live on for eternity.
