A legendary franchise, the Pittsburgh Steelers may have just been a recipient of a life preserver when it comes to their 2025 offensive challenges, as No. 1 receiver DK Metcalf, arguably the most athletic pass catcher in the NFL today, has officially requested a trade from the Seattle Seahawks and the 12’s.
NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Wednesday morning that Metcalf has requested a trade out of Seattle, with the Seahawks expected to see what his value is on the trade block.
This request came less than sixty minutes after his teammate and ‘big brother’, veteran WR Tyler Lockett was released by Seattle, most likely paving the way for Seahawks young WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba to lead the receiver room if Metcalf is dealt.
In his first six years in the league, Metcalf has played extremely well for the Seahawks, compiling three 1,000 yard receiving seasons, as well as breaking at least 900 yards and five touchdowns in each season.

He joined an elite class, becoming one of just six receivers all time to record 900 receiving yards in each of a player’s first six seasons, joining Terry McLaurin of the Washington Commanders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Mike Evans, A.J. Green with the Philadelphia Eagles, and Hall of Famers Randy Moss and Jerry Rice.
The former Ole Miss standout was a second-round pick of Seattle back in 2019. He got off to a rip-roaring start, accumulating 900 yards receiving and seven touchdowns as a rookie, then has an encore, following that up with arguably his best season in 2020 with 83 receptions, 1,303 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. Metcalf earned his only All-Pro selection that year, as well as the first of his two Pro Bowls.
This is not the first time the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are in need of receiver help in the worse way, have been linked to Metcalf as a potential trade partner. They also showed interest prior to the 2024 NFL trade deadline back in November, as then starting QB Russell Wilson had a long-standing relationship with the wide receiver.
The Steel City should pick up the phone and call the Seahawks as soon as possible, as Metcalf would undoubtedly form a destructive one, two punch as a WR duo with Pittsburgh Steelers George Pickens.
