Dan Morgan, Bryce Young, and Jadeveon Clowney addressed the media for Veteran Report Day, serving as a prelude to Panthers training camp which will begin on Wednesday, July 24.
The Panthers entered the off-season with several key points to address, the most dire being surrounding their franchise quarterback, Bryce Young, with protection and reliable receivers to bolster the offense. General Manager, Dan Morgan, approached free agency and trade scenarios with an open mind, choosing to bring in players that fit the culture of the Carolina Panthers.
When asked about Bryce Young’s progression, Morgan responded, “I love Bryce. He’s one of the hardest working players I’ve seen. Working under [Dave Canales] has helped him get better. Whether it’s footwork or timing passes, the easiest part is how coachable Bryce is.”
It has been six years since the Panthers made the playoffs, tied for third longest drought in the NFL. The playoff drought, among other factors, have kept Dan Morgan up at night as he tries to build a perennial contender in the Queen City. “There are no expectations. We have a lot of work to do, both the personnel and players. We’ll reach that when we’re ready.”
The NFL is a quarterback driven league, giving fans rightful concern on the leap that Bryce Young will take in his sophomore year. Offensive line issues marred last season, but Young is enthusiastic about the Panthers protection from a health standpoint. “It means a lot. We’ve gotten reps together because everyone is healthy right now.”
Despite taking strides in the right direction on offense, the Panthers defense remains an unknown. New addition and NFL veteran, Jadeveon Clowney, feels as if the team is getting underrated by fans and media alike. “I’ve won everywhere I went. I don’t think we’re going to lose like everybody thinks. I’m a winner.”
Fans can get a glimpse of Panthers practices, while also celebrating the return of football on Saturday, July 27 as part of the annual Back Together Saturday event. With so many questions surrounding the team, anticipation levels will be sky-high in The Carolinas.
