RB Penny Retiring from NFL After Six Seasons – Incomplete what might have been if it had not been for the injuries. A former first-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks has made the difficult decision to walk away from the game and is hanging up his cleats.
According to ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, former Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny is being placed on the reserve/retired list by the Carolina Panthers and is retiring from the NFL at the young age of 28. The Panthers signed undrafted rookie wide receiver Tayvion Robinson in a related move.
Penny was the No. 27 overall pick by the Seahawks out of San Diego State in the 2018 NFL Draft but never forefield the promise and anticipation of a first-round pick. He took the field for the Seahawks in 42 games over five seasons, running for 1,918 yards and 13 scores.
Penny’s best campaign with the Seahawks came in 2021 when he carried the rock for 749 yards and six touchdowns. However, he was not able to maintain those stats after suffering a broken fibula just five games into the 2022 season. After Penny’s devasting injury, rookie half back Ken Walker III came on strong for the Seahawks and ended up taking over his position as the bell cow in the starting lineup. That development prompted the Seahawks not to give Penny another contract in 2023.
Penny signed with the Philadelphia Eagles last offseason, but he only appeared in three games for them in the 2023 campaign. He then signed with the Panthers back in May, reuniting him with coach Dave Canales, but now he is ending his two-month Carolina tenure before it gets off the ground and truly begins.
While Penny experienced flashes of success in his career, they were few and far between, the deciding factor of his tenure was he ultimately struggled to stay healthy and to find the field when he was. While he failed to live up to his billing, six years in the NFL is nothing to sneeze at.

Jackson Joining Bills – The Bills are taking a flyer on a player with two strikes levied against him. Safety Kareem Jackson signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday.
The 15-year NFL veteran who concluded the 2023 season with the Houston Texans after spending more than four seasons in the Mile High City as a member of the Denver Broncos before linking up with Houston last season.
Bills safety Mike Edwards is considered week-to-week as he deals with a nagging hamstring injury, coach Sean McDermott said Monday.
Jackson, 36 years-of-age, was waived by the Broncos following a pair of suspensions totaling six games of discipline due to questionable hits deemed unnecessary roughness by the NFL.
Jackson drew a two-game suspension for a hit to the head of Green Bay Packers tight end Luke Musgrave on October 22. Not even a month later he was up to his old tricks. He later was suspended for four games, one day after a high blow to Minnesota Vikings quarterback Joshua Dobbs on November 19.
Jackson’s pocket was significantly lighter after he was fined a grand total of $89,670 last season for four illegal hits. He also has lost more than $838,000 in missed game checks.
In his lengthy career, he started 193 of 203 regular-season games and eight postseason games since being drafted out of Alabama by Houston (2010-18, 2023) and Denver (2019-23). Jackson has totaled 954 tackles and 22 interceptions, returning three to the house for touchdowns.
