First Padded Practice of Panthers Training Camp

Bryce Young impressed in the Panthers first padded practice of training camp, connecting with veteran wide receiver, Adam Thielen, in 1-on-1 drills, along with numerous tight-window throws in coverage.

There seemed to be a heightened intensity in today’s practice, despite Canales’ aim to bring the same physicality to every session. Robert Hunt noted how the intensity felt a notch higher, saying “Today felt a little different, [Derrick Brown] felt a little heavier…Derrick will make me better for sure.”

Pads or not, Miles Sanders’ intensity has been a constant throughout training camp. The five-year veteran running back made several big plays in drills, making sure to let both the defensive unit and sideline media know he’s heard certain criticism. Bryce Young is grateful for Sanders’ energy, “[Miles] is super intense. It’s practice four, and he has a game day mentality. It can permeate through our entire offense.”

A late scuffle broke out near the end of practice, but Dave Canales and Bryce Young didn’t seem bothered by the altercations in post-practice media availability. Instead, Canales was thrilled to see players like Jaycee Horn getting to sharpen his tools. “If you bring your best, and your opponent brings their best, then our whole play elevates…that’s the mentality we want. It’s not just about beating a guy, can you execute at your highest level.”

The Panthers will enjoy a much needed off-day on Wednesday, before heading down to Clemson for their Fan Fest Practice (Thursday, 6:30 p.m.).
