New York Jets News and Notes Alert

Jets Reportedly Taking Mike Williams Trade Calls – Aaron Rodgers has the key to the city and the franchise. After pulling off a blockbuster trade with the Los Vegas Raiders to land Davante Adams on Tuesday, Mike Williams’ days appear to be numbered in the New York Jets wide receiver room.

The Jets 2024 campaign has been a complete disaster after the first six weeks. They shockingly gave coach Robert Saleh his walking papers after a second straight loss in Week 5. But the knee jerk decision did not make much of a difference whatsoever, as the team made egregious mistakes during a three-point loss, with the whole world watching on Monday night to the Buffalo Bills.

They go into Week 7 with a pedestrian 2-4 record and are only a game better than the lowly New England Patriots, who are starting rookie Drake Maye under center. However, the organization will be selling hope this week after they made recent speculation and rumors a reality and completed a trade for Raiders’ star receiver Davante Adams.

The downside is that the move has added another player to a crowded receiving corps, and someone has to be down the river without a paddle. On Tuesday afternoon, Bleacher Report NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that Mike Williams is that man and that the team has made him “available for trade after acquiring Davante Adams.”

Williams is a respected veteran around the league, and since he is only signed through this season, he is sure to get trade interest from around the NFL. With that in mind, here are four teams that could target a swap for the eight-year veteran.

Kansas City Chiefs – With Rashee Rice sidelined for the rest of the season, the Kansas City Chiefs are a team that desperately needs more weapons to take pressure off Patrick Mahomes in the passing game. Williams is a talented jump-ball and end-zone threat that could be added to the Chiefs offense and make an impact immediately. With Kansas City looking to complete the first three-peat in the Super Bowl era this season, they might overpay for the 30-year-old.

Washington Commanders – The Washington Commanders are one of the big surprises in 2024. Heading into Week 7 they have the best record in the NFC East, 4-2. And rookie Jayden Daniels is looking like the franchise quarterback the team has been seeking for decades, since Doug Williams won them the Super Bowl in 1986. A proven end-zone threat would certainly help the young signal caller and give their underrated offense another valuable threat.

New Orleans Saints – The New Orleans were reportedly a top contender in the Davante Adams sweepstakes because of his relationship with Derek Carr dating back to college. With the courting process over, the organization could pivot to a more affordable option in Williams. With some of their top pass catchers injured, the offense could use all the help it can get. Especially to try and crawl out of their current 2-4 hole.

Pittsburgh Steelers – The Pittsburgh Steelers are another franchise that has been trying to finalize a blockbuster trade for a wide receiver. With Adams and Brandon Aiyuk now both off the market, they may have to settle for their choice, Williams. The former Los Angeles Chargers would slot in nicely with big-play threat George Pickens on Sundays.

Jets Grant Holdout DE Reddick OK to Seek Trade – The New York Jets have pulled off one blockbuster trade. Could another be in the works?

A few teams have been contacted about a potential trade for veteran pass rusher Haason Reddick, sources confirmed to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport on Tuesday. The Athletic first reported that the Jets permitted Reddick’s new agents a short timeline to look for a trade partner.

Speaking Tuesday at the Fall League Meeting in Atlanta, Jets owner Woody Johnson confirmed that the team has given Reddick and his representation permission to seek a trade.

Reddick recently hired new reps, including super-agent Drew Rosenhaus, after being dropped by his previous agency. The elite pass rusher had previously requested a trade after sides could not come to terms on a long-term agreement. Perhaps resumed interest could bring about a different outcome.

“We like the agent; he’s good, he knows what he’s doing,” Johnson said. “If anybody can get Haason out of whatever he is and get him playing, I think it’d be better for the young player.”

Reddick is still seeking a multi-year deal, according to Rapoport.
