Has the water run dry on one of the best receivers of his era? Odell Beckham Jr. is moving on to greener pastures and the next opportunity in his life.
The Dolphins and the former Pro Bowl receiver mutually agreed to part ways, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Friday, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.
Pelissero went on to say that OBJ is hoping to land on his feet and for more opportunities elsewhere, and the Dolphins are granting his release in good faith. The Dolphins have come out and confirmed the news.
Word of the Beckham-Dolphins divorce came to light less than one day after the veteran wide receiver posted a cryptic message Thursday on his social media platform.
“One thing about me no matter what. … I’m always land on my feet,” Beckham wrote. “God got me.”
Beckham’s release on Friday will keep him on waivers for the next 72 hours, until Monday. He is owed approximately $200,000 for the remainder of the season and was not close to reaching the incentives in the contract. If he clears waivers, Beckham would be free to sign with any of the other 31 teams around the league.

Beckham started the season on the physically unable to perform list after recovering from offseason knee surgery. He was finally activated on October 5. The wideout did not have a reception in his first three games while playing just 33 snaps over that period of time. OBJ has nine catches for 55 yards on 18 targets with no touchdowns for the season.
He never seemed to fit as a third-wheel in Miami, particularly with the increased role of tight end Jonnu Smith. Moving on from Beckham clears the deck for rookie Malik Washington to continue his development as the No. 3 receiver unimpeded.
In the past four seasons, Beckham has appeared in 37 games, snagging 88 total receptions for 1,157 yards and eight touchdowns. He sat out the entire 2022 campaign due to a knee injury. His lack of production and extensive injury history do not suggest there is much left in the tank at this point. The last time he was consistently productive and healthy was the postseason run to Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams, during which he suffered an ACL tear. One of his former clubs, Rams, Ravens, could take a chance on the receiver as they get ready for a potential run in the post season.
