There was trouble in the Nation’s Capital for the visitors. Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts was ruled out of his team’s NFC East matchup against the Washington Commanders on Sunday after sustaining a concussion.
With just under ten minutes left in the first quarter, Hurts scrambled left for 13 yards before being tackled by Washington linebackers Frankie Luvu and Bobby Wagner. He got to his feet very slowly and walked over to the blue medical tent to be evaluated for a possible concussion.
Hurts was replaced by quarterback Kenny Pickett, who moments later threw a four-yard touchdown pass to receiver A.J. Brown to give the Eagles a 14-0 lead. Pickett, the former Pittsburgh Steelers signal caller, finished 14 of 24 for 143 yards with a touchdown and the pick.
Right before halftime, the Eagles declared Hurts out for the remainder of the game.
Philadelphia went on to lose 36-33, even though they forced four turnovers, it was just too much Jayden Daniels, who cemented his Rookie of the Year case with five more touchdown on the day. The Commanders are now on the cusp of making the playoffs after handing Philadelphia (12-3) their first loss since September 29.
Hurts’ status is a huge unknown that will linger for the Eagles into their final two games of the regular season as the Super Bowl contenders look forward to a long playoff run.
