Despite their best efforts, Charlotte could not overcome Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday, losing 114-104. Antetokounmpo had a double-double with 29 points and 12 rebounds. It was a game high. Brook Lopez contributed 22 points in the victory.
Hornets’ Miles Bridges continued his sparkling play by hitting an early 3-pointer at the start of the game. From that point, both teams became aggressive and were able to make shots. A mini Bucks run gave them a 5 point advantage going into the second quarter, 33-28.
The Hornets came out in the second quarter not as focused. They had almost as many turnovers (5) as they did baskets (6), which is a bad combination. They made 6 of 19 shots and were only able to score 17 points. They trailed at halftime 62-45.
Charlotte came out ready to go in the third quarter. P.J. Washington went on a run all by himself, scoring the Hornets’ first 12 points of the second half. Even with Washington’s scoring outburst, Milwaukee’s lead expanded to 19 points. The rest of the team soon followed Washington’s lead. They made two thirds of their shots from the field and did the same from downtown. The Hornets were able to trim the lead down to a manageable 7 points going into the fourth quarter.
At the start of the fourth quarter, the Bucks looked like they were going to take control of the game, but the Hornets fought back and made a run of their own. The Hornets got the game to within four points, but that is as close as they could get. Lopez and Kris Middleton sealed the deal with two crucial shots toward the end of the game.
Devonta Graham led the Hornets in scoring with 25 points and 6 assists. Miles Bridges continued his streak with 21 points and 10 rebounds. P.J. Washington contributed 18 points. Terry Rozier had an off night with only 8 points and 4-17 from the field.
The Hornets will try to get back on the winning track on Wednesday night against the Boston Celtics.
