Panthers Sign their Third-Round Selection Brady Christensen

The Carolina Panthers signed a crucial part of their offensive line on Thursday. Third-round pick Brady Christensen made it official by signing his four-year rookie deal worth a possible $5.1 million that includes a signing bonus of $1.1 million. The Panthers have signed 10 of their 11 2021 draft picks. The only one yet to sign is another third-round selection, TE Tommy Tremble.

Christensen, who was chosen 70th overall, is a product of BYU and was considered one of the best lineman in the country. He played a big part in protecting quarterback Zach Wilson, who was drafted second overall by the New York Jets. Christensen had the best grade (96.0) from Pro Football Focus (PFF) by passing Oregon’s Penei Sewell in 2019.

The 6-foot-6, 305 pounder can play many positions on the offensive line. According to Alaina Getzenberg of the Charlotte Observer, his coach, Matt Rhule, has had Christensen take the majority of his reps at right tackle, even though at BYU his position was left tackle. Because of his versatility, he could plug holes for the Panthers, even playing at guard when needed.

Wherever the Panthers decide to place Christensen, he should be able to help keep quarterback Sam Darnold upright throughout the season. Having options on the offensive line is an important part of the Panthers success in 2021.
