The No. 1 overall pick out of Clemson University in South Carolina, quarterback Trevor Lawrence, inked his 4-year rookie contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars Monday morning. This makes it possible for him to join his teammates at training camp in 21 days.
Under the rookie scale, Lawrence’s contract is worth an estimated $36.8 million and included a $24.1 million signing bonus. He will eat up $6.7 million of the salary cap in the 2021 season.
A source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter the terms of the deal, which include:
Lawrence’s signing bonus will be paid within 15 days and the quarterback is deemed to have passed his physical for signing bonus purposes.
There is no offset language in the contract, meaning that he would still receive the full amount of his contract even if he were to be released and sign with another team.
The majority of Lawrence’s compensation will come in his roster bonuses in 2022, ’23 and ’24. He will earn that bonus if he is on the 90-man roster on the third day after the mandatory reporting date.
Lawrence will earn his roster bonus even if he is on the active non-football injury list.
With Lawrence under contract, the Jaguars have signed two thirds of their draft selections. Those not signed are running back Travis Etienne (first round), cornerback Tyson Campbell (second) and offensive tackle Walker Little (second).
Lawrence had an overall career mark of 34-2 at Clemson and had the third-best winning percentage by a starting quarterback in college football since 1978. He ended his college career undefeated in regular-season competition. Lawrence took Clemson to the National Championship game where they defeated Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2018.
Although there was some concern before the draft about surgery he had on his torn labrum, sources say Lawrence looks sharp and ready to go for opening day.
