The Extra Point – Charlotte’s Grant Dubose Records Stellar Debut

Some guys just immediately look the part.

That’s the case for Charlotte Receiver Grant Dubose who helped lead the 49ers to victory over the Blue Devils on Friday 31-28.

Depending on the site, Dubose is listed about 6’2”, 200 lbs, and used that size to play a physical ball game in his first ever action for the program.

He caught 4 targets for 118 yards and 2 touchdowns. Every single one of his catches were impressive.

His first ever reception goes for a 56 yard touchdown to put Charlotte on the board first. His 2nd reception was a diving catch out of bounds on a tough, tough throw from Reynolds.

His last 2 came in the 4th quarter with under 5 minutes to play. He recorded his 2nd big play of the game spinning through a couple of tackles to set Charlotte up in the redzone, to which he rewards himself on one of the following plays. The last reception saw him execute a crosser, bounce off a few bodies, and plunge in the end zone to give Charlotte the lead 24-21.

Pretty impressive for a guy that didn’t even play college football last year.

Dubose transferred from Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama. The program decided to sit out 2020 due to the pandemic. In Dubose’s Freshman season the year prior, he caught just 8 passes for 104 and one touchdown in 2019. It took him one game to surpass his yardage and touchdown totals in Division II.

He talked about his transition to Charlotte after the game…

The sophomore pass catcher is someone who doesn’t take it for granted either. You can hear the excitement after the game…

Dubose better get used to those lights and the cameras, because the guy is here to stay.
