And just like that the Hornets are above .500 once again.
They’d only fallen below the threshold for a game when they lost to Utah, but answered with a comeback win against Denver, going 2-4 on the road trip.
It was an unconventional way to get there, getting blown out in a few games only to come back from a 17 point deficit against Denver. But 2-4 is what I asked for, and that’s what we got.
Now they’re 18-17 after a convincing win against the Rockets back at the Spectrum Center and James Borrego gave credit to the defense… (audio)
Mason Plumlee had his best game as a Hornet, and certainly the best half. In the first 2 quarters, Plumlee went 6-6 from the field including a buzzer beater, and went 7-7 in the game.
Not only that, he gave you at least a glimpse of what it could look like when the Hornets have some defensive presence down low.
Terry Rozier also had a good game hitting 7 three’s scoring 27 points on good shooting. Terry’s had an up and down season, but the bad games are farther apart than they used to be.
Last but not least, Jalen McDaniels stepped up in a huge way with the absence of Miles Bridges and PJ Washington. With both of them in protocols, McDaniels got the start and scored 16 points. He hit half his shots and showed some ability to take guys off the dribble.
With a much easier schedule the rest of the way, and the Hornets surviving a gruesome part going .500, perhaps this win can springboard the Hornets up the standings as the season moves along.
