Braves Drop Game 2 In Series Against Dodgers

By: Emma Ann Lay

The Atlanta Braves lost game two of their home series to the Los Angeles Dodgers last night 8-1.

This loss gives the Dodgers the series victory after the Braves also lost game one on Monday night 8-6. Dodgers’ pitcher Bobby Miller won last night’s game after securing five strikeouts and only one error in six innings.

Dodgers’ second baseman Mookie Betts scored three runs while Catcher Will Smith had 3 RBIs, and DH J.D. Martinez a 3-run homer in the ninth to seal the victory.

The Braves scored an early run in the first inning but struggled to keep the bats rolling throughout the rest of the game.

Braves pitcher Spencer Strider had 11 strikeouts in his six innings on the mound but the defense behind him had two errors with the offense producing five hits.

Third baseman Austin Riley had the first-inning RBI, but that wasn’t enough to keep the Braves in the lead.

The Braves had a total of five hits with two errors compared to the Dodgers’ nine hits and one error making the Dodgers outhit the Braves for the win.

It has become clear that the injuries to starting pitchers LHP Max Fried (left forearm strain) and RHP Kyle Wright (right shoulder inflammation) is hurting the success of the Braves. Fried is still looking to return in the first half of July, but there is still no news of a return date for Wright.

The Braves’ bullpen struggles have contributed to the recent series of losses.
A Braves win tonight would boost their overall record, but would still mean a series loss to the Dodgers.

The Braves will begin their next four-game home series against the Philadelphia Phillies tomorrow night looking for a comeback victory to keep them in the winning circle.

The series finale is tonight at 7:20 from Truist Park.
