Charlotte Hornets General Manager Mitch Kupchak discussed Charlotte’s motives for the upcoming draft in a press conference earlier today. While debate about possibly trading the pick has gathered steam, Kupchak says he’s anticipating the team making the pick.
Kupchak expressed that the team will wait to make a final decision on the pick, but he assured that ultimately Michael Jordan will have the final say. Despite the recent ownership change, Kupchak says that Jordan will remain highly involved throughout the draft process.
Kupchak then went on to discuss the amount of “intel” and information that will be found on Alabama’s Brandon Miller before making their final decision. Concerns for Miller’s judgment have raised questions for a background check.
Kupchak said he will make the pick under Jordan and the new owners’ approval.
Both Jordan and the new owners will be involved in the draft and free agency process as they continue to work through the ownership transition but Kupchak says he will be making the selection.
The Hornets have still yet to announce who they will choose as their #2 pick, or if they decide to trade, and it is likely that the final decision will not be made until draft day.
