What Will The Charlotte Hornets Do At No. 2?

By: Bryce Mitchell

The 2023 NBA Draft almost seems like it won’t start until the No. 2 pick. Victor Wembanyama seems to be the predictable first pick for the San Antonio Spurs.

With that said, attention falls onto the Charlotte Hornets for their number two pick. Here are their options; Brandon Miller, Scoot Henderson or make a trade.

Brandon Miller

The Alabama freshman forward has solidified himself as a top prospect for this year’s draft. His first season on the Crimson Tide team, he recorded a 43% field goal percentage, 38.4% for 3-pointers and 85.9% off the free throw line.

Miller would fit right in with the Hornets, as they already have a point guard in LaMelo Ball. With the SEC Rookie of the Year, Ball could find the co-star he’s been looking for.

The talented wing player averaged 18.8 points during the season and has reportedly been doing well in workouts with Charlotte. The Hornets need a strong wing player and Miller could be the right guy for the job.

The only concern with Miller was his involvement with the shooting of 23-year-old Jamea Harris. Although Miller didn’t face charges, the story has followed him.

Scoot Henderson

The general consensus ahead of the draft was that Miller would be the No. 2 pick, but as of Thursday afternoon, Scoot Henderson has been gaining “momentum.”

The 6’2’’ point guard has been developing his skills in the G League Ignite for two seasons, including what was his senior year of high school.

Henderson averages 16.5 points a game and 42.9% field goal, 27.5% 3-point, and a 76.4% free throw. Henderson is strong and physical yet plays with finesse.

Henderson would be an offensive asset for Charlotte. Sixty-five percent of his field goals in the G League were unassisted, an explosive element the Hornets could benefit from.

Trade their overall No. 2 pick

The other option for the Hornets would be to trade their No. 2 overall pick. In early June, it was reported that the Pelicans were going to pursue a top pick, with their eyes on Scoot Henderson.

This led to the idea that the Hornets could potentially trade their second pick spot.

Hornets general manager Mitch Kupchak has said he’s will to listen to all the calls he receives about the available players, but he said that at the moment, he’s going to pick second.

The back-and-forth decision for the Charlotte Hornets won’t be final until Thursday night.

The NBA Draft will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday on 730 The Game.
