On Monday night, the Carolina Panthers released three players before the 4 p.m. ET deadline on Tuesday. These moves got them one step closer to the 80-man limit at this stage of preseason.
One of the early players waived was wide receiver Krishawn Hogan. The 6-foot-3, 217-pound pass catcher was added to the team after a tryout late last month. His last official game action was two seasons ago with the New Orleans Saints.
The other two players that got the axe were recently signed guard Marquel Harrell and defensive tackle Walter Palmore. Harrell was acquired last Thursday as the Panthers were looking for help to sure-up their offensive line, to better protect quarterback Sam Darnold.
Palmore was brought in a day before, to close the last roster spot that was available after the organization made six moves that week. Those moves brought the Panthers down to 84 players after last week’s first round of cuts.
With Carolina’s team down to 82 men as of Monday evening, they must continue to trim down the roster. Early Tuesday morning, they did exactly that.
The Panthers made it known who the final two players were that got released before the 4 p.m. ET deadline. Defensive linemen Kendall Donnerson and Caraun Reid were both waived.
Donnerson’s stats were two tackles and one quarterback hit against the Indianapolis Colts. Reid did not register on the stat sheet in his time with the Panthers.
The Panthers roster is officially slimmed down to 80 players. It will stay in place until next Tuesday when Carolina will have to cut twenty-seven players, bringing them to the mandatory 53-man roster.
The Panthers and the Pittsburgh Steelers will face-off in the final game of the preseason on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Bank of America Stadium.
